The King's Fair
Medieval jousting is one of many attractions at the King's Fair.

Once upon a time there was a large forest, where a woodcutter and his wife lived on its edge with their three-year-old daughter. They were so poor that they could no longer feed their daughter. One day, when the woodcutter went into the forest and was very sad about the situation, a marvelous and beautiful women suddenly appeared before him. Her face glistended. Her crown was made of stars. Her dress was as blue as the sky and covered with stars. "I am the Virgin Mary," she said tho him. "Since you can't care for your daughter, the King has sent me to bring you news of a great feast."

School spirit is fostered as classes compete in "fierce competition".

Early autumn brings The King's Fair, the Atonement Academy's feast and festival in honor of Christ the King - Lord over all creation. Families of students and parishioners are invited to this day of meriment with food, games, and prizes. Attendees are encouraged to dress in medieval regalia as the old world themed festival serves as the main yearly fundraiser in support of the school.

As autumn leaves fall, children play as horses pound the dust in display of chivalry and heraldry. The year is almost over, as the sun draws nigh and the Church's concluding feast of Christ the King is soon upon us. The knigtly virtues carry us onward to the renewal that awaits all the faithful: Prudence, Temperance, Justice and Fortitude.

Introduction story adapted from "The Virgin Mary's Child", from the Brothers Grimm.
